POLDI PEZZOLI IN HUMANITAS
Two different realities, in terms of history and vocation – a place for treatment and research and a symbol of Milan’s history and the most refined collecting – come together in one unique and evocative project.
The great masterpieces and collections of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli become part of the everyday life of the Humanitas San Pio X hospital, endowing the spaces with beauty and creating a connection between art and people. Art is a powerful communicative tool and vehicle for empathy, and here it is enhanced outside of its usual context, to accompany the patients, their caregivers and hospital professionals in those times that involve long waits or hospital stays.
Reassuring faces that hold your attention, landscapes that open a window onto real or fantasy worlds outside, clocks from the most important collection of antique timepieces in Italy and multi-coloured ceramics: these are the details that tell the story of the museum’s collecting history and now adorn the walls of the hospital.
LA CURA E LA BELLEZZA
The ‘Poldi Pezzoli in Humanitas’ project is part of ‘La Cura e la Bellezza (Care and Beauty)’, a unique experiment in Italy. A feature of the project is to give an unprecedented perspective on the paintings, rendered in an immersive format that maximises the details and brushstrokes. It is a different perspective on the hospital, where beauty and shared emotions are a support for those who come in and their experience of care. Underlying the project is Humanitas’ challenge to narrate and experience the three dimensions of the hospital – care, innovation, research – but also the human experience of facing illness in a new way. The medium for this narration is beauty, with its power to transport the viewer and generate emotions.
‘La Cura e la Bellezza’ is also being presented in the Humanitas hospitals in Bergamo, with the project “La Carrara in Humanitas” (which began in 2018 as a collaboration between Humanitas Gavazzeni and Castelli and the Accademia Carrara of Bergamo, followed by ‘Opere in Parole’ in 2020) and Rozzano, with ‘Brera in Humanitas’, launched in 2023.
